Alice in Thermoland

Gosh, I feel embarrassed that it’s been so long since I posted anything and it’s not because I haven’t been sewing but my time is also occupied with cooking. I am a Thermomix consultant and sell the most amazing kitchen appliance in the world and I also manage a Facebook page filled with inspirational photos, recipes, tips and hints. A Thermomix can replace 14 kitchen appliances and is amazing (unfortunately not sold in the USA) and because it can do so much I named my Thermomix “Alice” (from the Brady Bunch… remember that show?). The profile pic I had for the first 15 months was of the actual Alice but the page has grown and grown and now has almost 3000 followers so I felt a need to change the image and avoid any copyright lawsuits. The name of the page has always been Alice in Thermoland so I decided to go with the Alice in Wonderland theme and searched high and low for costume patterns so I could make myself a costume and dress myself up as her! WOW! What fun!!

Alice in Thermoland

Here’s what I came up with!

The pattern I used as a basis was McCall’s M6187 but I changed it so very much that I might as well have said that I drafted it completely myself. The only original parts from the pattern are the sleeves! I wanted my apron to be separate so I could wash it (after all I’d be using it for cooking!) and I drafted that pattern myself. I love the criss-cross back straps! The skirt pattern was meant to be gathered into the waistband but this looked so frumpy on my that I unpicked it and decided on a semi-circle skirt instead. I’m really happy with the outcome and can’t wait to see more happening on my FB page too!

I’m currently sewing some summer dresses and will blog about them soon. Yesterday I made a wearable muslin and I hope that today I can make my master one! EXCITED!!

One problem with leaving blogging for so long is that there are so many changes to WordPress since I last used it and now I have no idea how to get some of the effects I used to use so confidently. Slowly I will get back into it all. Have a great weekend! :)

    • Thank you Teri. It all becomes a bit much sometimes but I get such a kick out of it when I do it! I’m enjoying reading about your adventures too but can’t always comment unless I’m sitting behind an actual computer. :)
